Lille base for infectious-disease research

The Centre d'Infection et d'Immunologie de Lille or CIIL associates the Pasteur Institute with France's medical research institute Inserm, national research body CNRS, and the research and higher-education cluster structured around the Universities of Lille 1 and 2. Dedicated to infectious diseases, it will initially host the 14 research teams involved and their 200 staff members in three separate buildings, but they will later be brought together in a new building with a floor area of 7,000 sq. m. The projected cost is €20 million and construction work could get under way in 2011. In the meantime, CIIL is already working on a project centered on tuberculosis diagnostics, conducted in cooperation with Biopôle, the competitiveness cluster based in Lyon.
