Latest investment decisions made by recognized leaders
Lille-Northern France major cluster in healthcare activities has been recently and strongly reinforced by major investment led by leaders in the fields of pharmaceutical and functional food:
Tate & Lyle announced a £3m (€4m) investment to establish a Wellness & Nutrition Centre in Lille, France. The centre, officially open in September 2008, includes laboratories and pilot plant facilities for customers. With a staff of more than 60 qualified people, this new center focuses on developing new ingredients in the field of wellness and nutrition, catering for beverage, dairy, bakery, and convenience food.
Bayer acquired Schering AG and the Berlin-based company was officially renamed Bayer Schering Pharma. The French headquarters of the new entity will soon open on the Eurasanté Bio-business park in Lille and will employ 800 people, 440 medical and pharmaceutical delegates and 360 people on-site.
GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals: GSK Bio, one of the world’s leading vaccine manufacturers, is investing more than 500 m € in its vaccine manufacturing plant in Saint Amand Les Eaux, Northern France, to increase production capacity in formulation, filling, freeze-drying and packaging, to meet growing worldwide demand for paediatric and adult vaccines. The new site, expected to be operational in 2011, will contribute to the production of many GSK’s innovative new vaccines.
